About

Although Form Function Art does not have a brick and mortar location we are able to showcase our archive of design on paper to a worldwide audience through this website. Technology has created an easy way to access information that was once hard to find.

Ephemera is defined as things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time. Items of collectible memorabilia, typically written or printed ones, that were originally expected to have only short-term usefulness or popularity. Most of the drawings in the FFA collection were never intended to be collected or appreciate in value. As technology has changed and the art of perspective drawings was replaced with CAD files, these historical documents became more significant.

This website is not only a retail establishment for selling collections of midcentury architectural and industrial art. It was also created to share the history of these creations and learn more about the most creative minds of the 20th and 21st centuries. Individual artists include Alfonso Iannelli, Frank Lloyd Wright, Raymond Loewy, and Vincent Raney. Firms include Daniel H. Burnham, Harwood K. Smith, Raymond Loewy Associates, and many others.

The Owner

I grew up in a family surrounded by architects. Our household looked like the studio set of Madmen amid all the Midcentury Modern furniture. As a young boy, I would spend Saturdays at work with my dad. He would give me a prime spot at a drafting table on the 21st floor of the Southland Life building in downtown Dallas (close to the coke machine & bathroom). The Southland Life building was part of a complex known as the “Southland Center” and at the time was compared to the Rockefeller Center.

A drafting table with a T-square and electric eraser would keep my mind occupied for hours. My dad would leave me to my imagination while he and his associates created commercial designs that are still standing today. I didn’t study Architecture in college but I have a great appreciation for the engineering & creativity required to build a structure that is hundreds of feet tall. Generating perspective drawings is quickly being replaced by technology, so I attempt to preserve some of the histories of these architectural renderings.
